Re-waxing
The frequency of wear and conditions of storage will determine how often your Cag needs re-waxing.
The jacket will
either start leaking or just look very dry.
Sometimes you can get away with just proofing the hood, shoulders, elbows and some seams.
Reproofing a jacket inside and out takes about an hour.

Re-proofing wax is available at outdoor shops, outfitters and online.
The wax needs melting to apply to the Cag.
Place the tin in a saucepan of very hot water on a low heat on your hob.
|
|
Once the wax has melted apply it to the cotton.
Many people recommend using a soft cloth but I prefer just to use my hands.
You need to work quite quickly before the wax solidifies, working in a warm environment helps.
|
|
Once the whole of the outside of the Cag has been treated you may wish to
turn it inside out and do the same on the inside.
|
|
To really help the wax work into the cotton apply some heat using a
hair dryer and then hang outside if it is a warm day or overnight in a warm room.
|
|
After 24 hours the jacket should be ready for use again.
Don't worry if the job looks a bit DIY because wax cotton was always designed to be maintained by the wearer,
that's part of its distinctive appeal.
