Is Stabo an ethical company? We try to be...

Stabo's ethical policy

• Carefully consider the impact all materials have on the environment and make the best choices
• Buy materials locally where possible
• Create as little waste as possible
• Pay a fair wage
• Treat people respectfully
• Have as small a carbon footprint as possible
• Be as transparent as possible about our manufacturing processes
• Recycle
• Continue to learn as much as we can about the impact of our materials and manufacturing processes.

Although a lot of British manufacturing has gone abroad we believe in making and selling things in the UK. When we screen print we design the images, build and expose the re-usable screens and finally print in our studio. This enables us to only make what we need and avoid any costly mistakes. If we were to source cheaper manufacturing abroad the minimum orders would be very large and lead to far higher wastage.

Some examples of how we act ethically:

• Our leather is a by-product from the meat industry and much better for the environment than many synthetic products. We would never use hides from endangered species.
• We use British products where possible.
• A lot of our materials are ‘end of line’ or waste products from other parts of the textile and leather industry.
• We recycle everything we can.
• Our workshop has the thickest insulation available and is heated with a wood burning stove.
• We buy second hand machinery and get it mended when it breaks down.

The subject is very complicated and has many contradictions but we strive to keep on learning and keep on improving and are always happy to discuss the impact our products have on the environment and society.
